Online meeting with Commissioner Anderson (Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development) and others

On November 19, Mr. Aniya and Mr. Hughes had an online meeting with Commissioner Anderson (Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development) of the Government of Alaska, Deputy Commissioner Springsteen, and Mr. Keith Comstock.
Mr. Aniya explained the history of Japanese tourists visiting Alaska, which dates back to the 1970 World Expo held in Japan, and mentioned that he would like to continue this positive relationship with the State of Alaska despite the influence of COVID-19. Mr. Aniya also explained recent efforts by the Consular Office to promote sister city relationships between Japan and Alaska.
Commissioner Anderson mentioned that she was aware that Japanese tourists visit Alaska for experiences such as Northern Lights tours. She believes this to be an important pillar of exchange, and therefore is open to cooperation if specific matters are presented in the future.
