Meeting with Japanese Language Professors of UAA

On June 23, Head Consul Kiyohiko Hamada and Consul General Makoto Iyori of the Consulate General of Japan in Seattle met with Director and Assistant Professor Dr. Kaori Shimizu and Professor Emerita Dr. Hiroko Harada at the Montgomery Dickson Center of Japanese Language and Culture at UAA.
Their spirited discussion centered around the Japanese community and Japanese language-learning in Alaska, as well as the different challenges and solutions found in both Anchorage and Seattle in relation to budgetary concerns, the rise and role of technology and AI in the classroom, and the desire to spread Japanese culture to the local community.
The Consular Office of Japan is happy to have been able to facilitate the exchange of their unique perspectives and hopes for the best for both communities in the days to come.
