Meeting with the Commissioner of Alaska’s Dept. of Fish & Game

On July 22nd, 2025, Head Consul Kiyohiko Hamada met with Alaska’s State Commissioner of the Dept. of Fish and Game, Douglas Vincent-Lang at the Departments’ Anchorage offices.
Many subjects were discussed; the current geopolitical climate and its effects on the fishing industry, the various challenges inherent to remote seafood processors in Dutch Harbor and their energy needs, the current health of various fish stocks, and the ongoing research efforts to better understand the positive and negative impacts of changes to the marine environment.
The Consul and the Commissioner expressed pride in the mutually beneficial economic trade between Japan and Alaska and look forward to further deepening the commercial and cultural ties.
