Head Consul Kiyohiko Hamada met on October 9, 2025, with Glenfarne Alaska LNG President Adam Prestidge and representatives from 8 Star Alaska to discuss progress on the Alaska LNG Project (AKLNG) and opportunities for renewed Japan–Alaska collaboration.

The meeting reaffirmed the historic 50-year Japan-Alaska energy partnership that began with the Kenai LNG plant, while noting strong new interest from Japanese energy firms following JERA’s recent letter of intent. Mr. Prestidge shared that construction is expected to begin in late 2026, with full operation by mid-2029.

The Consular Office also invited Glenfarne and 8 Star Alaska to join its upcoming event, Online Arctic Symposium in January 2026, continuing dialogue to strengthen bilateral cooperation in energy and beyond.
