On March 28, the Consular Office of Japan in Anchorage, in co-hosting with the Alaska Association of Teachers of Japanese, held the 21st Alaska Nihongo Contest, which brought together more than 200 Japanese language learners from across the state of Alaska.

Participants competed in categories including speech, haiku, poetry, skit, and song, presenting the results of their studies to date. Following the presentations in each category, Tomodachi Daiko delivered a dynamic taiko drum performance and conducted a workshop, providing participants with a valuable opportunity to experience Japanese culture.

At the closing ceremony, Head of Office Hamada expressed his gratitude for being able to co-hosted the contest with the Alaska Association of Teachers of Japanese. He also encouraged participants by noting that while learning a foreign language is not easy, studying a language deepens one’s understanding of its culture, and he urged them to continue striving to master Japanese.

The Consular Office of Japan in Anchorage extends its heartfelt congratulations to all the Japanese language learners who worked hard in preparation for this contest and wishes them continued success in their future endeavors in Alaska.
