Visit of Mrs. Yoko Kamikawa, member of the House of Representatives of Japan, to the State of Alaska

From April 29th to May 2ndMrs. Yoko Kamikawamember of the House of Representatives of Japan, visited the State of Alaska. During the visit, at the invitation of U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski, Representative Kamikawa participated online in “INNOVATE CORDOVA,” held in Cordova, Alaska.

In Anchorage, Rep. Kamikawa held an online meeting with Governor Mike Dunleavy and an in-person meeting with Mayor Suzanne LaFrance. She also engaged with emerging leaders and representatives of Indigenous communities, exchanging views on a wide range of issues, including energy, Arctic policy, as well as the challenges facing Indigenous communities.

In addition, she visited Dimond High School to learn about the Japanese Immersion Program and encouraged students studying Japanese. She also participated in public events hosted by the Commonwealth North and the Alaska World Affairs Council, where the importance of further strengthening community-based Japan - U.S. cooperation was emphasized across a broad range of fields, including Arctic policy, marine science, energy, education, and WPS (Women, Peace, and Security).
