On July 21st, Head Consul Kiyohiko Hamada and Consular Office staff met with Port Director Terry Umatum, Operations & Maintenance Deputy Director Ronnie M. Poole, and Operations & Security Support Brian E. Stanley of the Don Young Port of Alaska to discuss preparations for the upcoming Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) training vessel visit, as well as ongoing Port modernization efforts.

The meeting included discussions on event planning, logistics, and opportunities for community engagement during the JMSDF visit. Director Umatum also provided an overview of the Port of Alaska Modernization Program, recent federal funding developments, and long-term infrastructure improvements that will strengthen the Port's role as Alaska's primary gateway for commerce. Following the meeting, participants toured the modernization project site to observe ongoing construction and learn more about the Port's future development.

The Consular Office of Japan in Anchorage appreciates the Port of Alaska efforts and coordination that sustains critical elements of our international relationship.
