Visit to Nome Alaska

On July 28th, Head Consul Kiyohiko Hamada and Consular Office staff visited Nome, Alaska to meet with various representatives connected to economic development efforts there and gain a better understanding of Nome’s ongoing Port Modification Program that has implications for geopolitical stability and marine traffic transiting the Bering Strait.
While there, Head Consul Hamada met with Nome City Mayor Kenneth Hughes, Harbormaster Lucas Stotts, City Administrator Lee Smith, Museum Director Cheryl Thompson, Graphite One Community Liaison Blake Bogart, and VP and CBO of the Norton Sound Economic Development Corporation Simon Kinneen.
The Consular Office of Japan in Anchorage continues to engage with sectors that will impact Northern Pacific maritime activity and encourage further international cooperation.
