The Consular Office of Japan in Anchorage is currently open for applications for a local staff position.
Minimum Requirements
●Those able to work using both English and Japanese
●Those with American citizenship or permanent residency (visa not provided)
●Those with knowledge of basic computer software (Excel、Word, etc.)
●Those with a valid driver’s license
●Those who are both mentally and physically healthy
●Those with an understanding of Japanese culture, the ability to communicate with their coworkers and guests, and coordinates well with others in a way one would expect from someone who works at a Japanese Consular Office.
Employment Details
●We are currently hiring for the position of Local Staff (within the Consular Section and Admin Section).
●Responsible for welcoming and handling the needs of guests at the consular window, as well as taking calls and emails from customers.
●General consular services such as handling the paperwork and processing visas, certifications for nationality, family registry, passports and more.
●Analyzing consular systems and spreading safety information within the US
●Operation of the consular-related systems and work related to public relations (such as updating and managing the consular office website).
●Other duties, including other work supporting Japanese nationals, as assigned.
※The duties assigned may be subject to the applicant’s experience, background, suitability, and the needs of the Consular Office at the time.
Employment Hours
●Monday through Friday, 8:45 am to 12:00 pm、1:00 pm to 4:45 pm
●20 days of paid time off (as well as select American and Japanese holidays)
Employment Contract
●The term of the first contract will be a 2 year fixed term with the first 3 months being a trial period. It is possible to extend this term by recontacting every 2 years.
Salary/Benefits
●Monthly salary will be determined by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the possibility of overtime as needed.
●Monthly salutary is determined by experience (approx.. $3,000 without experience).
●The consular office will reimburse those with private health care plans in the amount of 80% of their monthly premium for health insurance and 50% of Social Security Tax.
●Overtime work and business trips within the state may be required (as needed).
●No allowance for transportation, relocation, or commute is provided.
Starting Date
●Expected to start in early November 2026.
