From October 7 to 12, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) training squadron JS Kashima and JS Yamagiri visited Dutch Harbor for the first time in three years as part of the Overseas Training Cruise.

During the port visit, alongside training for JMSDF junior officers, a wide range of events took place. These included a special onboard tour and luncheon for officials from the City of Unalaska and representatives from local Japanese affiliated companies, a lecture on the local fishing industry delivered by a representative of a local Japanese affiliated seafood processor for approximately 180 junior officers, and a cultural exchange event featuring Origami and Calligraphy with local residents.

This port visit to Dutch Harbor served as an exceptionally meaningful opportunity to further strengthen cooperation with the City of Unalaska and local stakeholders, while promoting Japanese culture and mutual understanding in Unalaska.
