Head Consul Hamada Meets with Alaska Energy Authority
2026/10/21
On October 14, Head Consul Kiyohiko Hamada met with Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) CEO and Executive Director Curtis Thayer and Chief Operating Officer Tim Sandstrom to discuss Alaska’s energy infrastructure, electricity reliability, and opportunities for future development.
AEA highlighted several major infrastructure initiatives, including the proposed Beluga-Healy Transmission Project, Cook Inlet PowerLink, and Bradley Lake Expansion Project. These projects, and others, aim to strengthen system reliability, improve energy security, and help meet Alaska’s growing electricity needs by offsetting natural gas consumption. The discussion also covered rural energy programs, renewable energy development, and efforts to reduce energy costs and improve reliability for communities across the state.
The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to learn more about Alaska’s evolving energy priorities and explore areas of mutual interest between Alaska and Japan. The Consular Office of Japan looks forward to continued dialogue and strengthened economic ties in Alaska's energy sector.
