On Wednesday, May 7, Head Consul Kiyohiko Hamada attended Palmer High School's Japanese National Honor Society Induction Ceremony.

In the event's opening speech, Head Consul Hamada commended the students' hard work given the difficulty of learning another language, using his own experiences to explain just how much there is to gain from language-learning. Afterward, the students took turns giving speeches both in English and Japanese, including a speech from one student from Palmer's sister city, Saroma, Hokkaido, who spoke about his family's generational bond with Palmer, as well as a speech from an assistant teacher at Palmer High School, Rio Kimoto, who is soon going to return to Japan, taking her final days in Palmer to thank the community for welcoming and accepting her over the past two years.

The Consular Office of Japan in Anchorage would like to express our sincere appreciation to all who make the Japanese program at Palmer the great success that it continues to be.
