2025 Japanese Summer Festival
2025/8/18

On August 10th, our office cohosted the “2025 Japanese Summer Festival” with the Japan Alaska Association. The event took place at Kincaid Park in Anchorage, where many attendees, including Alaska State Legislators and Anchorage Assembly members, gathered to enjoy Japanese traditions such as yakisoba stalls and bon odori (a Japanese traditional dance).
Other activities included sumie (a Japanese painting style using calligraphy techniques) demonstrations, wadaiko (traditional Japanese drums) and shamisen (Japanese traditional stringed instrument) performances, and ikebana (flower arrangement) workshops. Attendees shared their impressions, saying, “This was my first time participating, but I definitely want to come again next year,” “It was a wonderful event,” and “I felt the warmth of Japanese hospitality.” The event provided a valuable opportunity for participants to experience the charm of Japan up close.
In his opening remarks, Head Consul Hamada introduced Japan's three major festivals and the Japanese Festivals held around the world. He noted that despite its small scale, it is very encouraging that this Japanese Summer Festival in Alaska has been held in this area for many years. He also expressed his gratitude to the Japan Alaska Association board members and advisers as well as volunteers for their dedicated efforts.
