Meeting with the Sitka Tribe of Alaska

On June 20, 2025, Head Consul Kiyonhiko Hamada met with representatives from the Sitka Tribe of Alaska. In attendance were Tribal Chairwoman Yeidikook’áa Dionne Brady-Howard, Chief Operating Officer Anne Davis, and Government Relations Director Gerry Hope.
Head Consul Hamada expressed appreciation for the opportunity to learn more about the Sitka Tribe of Alaska and their continued efforts to revitalize their culture through art workshops, beading, and teaching youth how to process traditional foods. Head Consul Hamada spoke about the Indigenous Ainu people of Hokkaido, and how similar their culture is to the Tlingit and Haida people. Other topics of discussion focused on the Yaaw (herring), repatriation, the seafood industry, tourism, and education funding.
The Consular Office of Japan looks forward to future cooperation with the Sitka Tribe of Alaska.
