On May 19th, 2025, Head Consul Kiyohiko Hamada met with Kenai Peninsula Economic Development District’s Executive Director Cassidi Cameron and Program Manager Caitlin Coreson to discuss economic conditions on the Kenai Peninsula.

Discussions touched on various subjects: AKLNG and its impact on the Peninsula’s economy, various other energy projects and their potential impacts, and sector overviews of Kenai’s tourism, mariculture, and entrepreneurial workforce trends.

Kenai Peninsula encompasses a broad range of communities home to over 60,000 individuals and is home to 3 communities that share a Sister City relationship with counterparts in Japan. It also was home to the early LNG export facilities that shipped Cook Inlet natural gas to Japan from 1969 to 2011.

The Consular Office of Japan in Anchorage looks forward to the development of economic opportunities that will deepen the ties between Japan and Alaska.
