Japanese Government Scholarships
Since 1954, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) has been offering scholarships for foreign nationals to study in Japan.
U.S. citizens living in Alaska may apply for MEXT scholarships through the Consulate-General of Japan in Seattle. Please see the scholarship page on the Consulate-General of Japan in Seattle website for more information, or contact education@se.mofa.go.jp.
U.S. citizens residing in other states should apply for scholarships through the consulate with jurisdiction over their state. To find the consulate responsible for your state, please see the United States Consulate Guide.
Non-U.S. citizens wishing to study in Japan should apply for scholarships through the Embassy of Japan in their country of citizenship.
