In this article, we would like to introduce the following letter sent from Chitose City.
The Consular Office of Japan in Anchorage is pleased to see the resumption of active exchanges between Japan and Alaska sister cities.
“Today, I am writing you to share a sister city event held last month.
We had the ‘Sky Beer & YOSAKOI Festa’ in July.
It was the first time in 4 years we we’re able to invite Miss Anchorage due to COVID-19.
We have invited Miss Anchorage to this event since 1989 and Alyssa Adams, Miss Anchorage 2023, is the 31st Miss Anchorage to be invited.
As her chaperon, Rebecca Maiyer came with her, who was a former Miss Anchorage herself.
They visited one of the elementary schools in Chitose for a cultural exchange, and enjoyed some games together.
The students were so excited to meet someone from a different country and asked many questions. All had fun!
At the festa, Alyssa Adams introduced Anchorage at the stage, and communicated with Chitose citizens.
We also held a welcome party and more than 50 citizens enjoyed the party.
They also experienced home-stay. It was only for one night, but they both enjoyed the stay. Alyssa’s host family felt so sad when she left at the airport, and we knew they had had a wonderful time together even for one night.
