On Saturday, March 30, the “19th Alaska Nihongo Contest”, a Japanese language contest, was held at the University of Alaska, Anchorage.
Approximately 200 students, teachers, and parents from Anchorage, Palmer, and Fairbanks attended.

Mr. Kamimura, president of the Alaska Association of Teachers of Japanese, gave the opening remarks, followed by presentations of haiku, poetry, speeches, skits, and songs.
In the afternoon, Tomodachi Taiko gave a powerful taiko performance.
At the closing ceremony, Mr. Hamada, Head of the Consular Office of Japan in Anchorage, praised the participants for their attitude toward the Japanese language and the results of their great efforts. The event had been conducted in a friendly atmosphere from start to finish.

The special thanks go to the dedicated efforts of all the volunteers and to our sister cities, Saroma, Chitose, and Monbetsu, which have contributed special awards.
The Consular Office of Japan in Anchorage is determined to continue to support the Japanese language education in Alaska.
