“Japan – Alaska Sister Cities Forum” online meeting

On December 19th (Alaska time), the "Japan-Alaska Sister City Forum" online meeting was held. Participants from Japan-Alaska sister cities (Chitose City, Teshio Town, Monbetsu City, Akita City, Anchorage, Homer, Kenai Peninsula Borough, Sitka), and Mr. Aniya and Mr. Holayter from the Consular Office in Anchorage attended.
Mr. Aniya introduced the following sister city activities that took place during September through December, which were posted on the Consular Office’s website and Facebook page:
・“Onigiri Action Campaign” by four Palmer High School students,
・Sale of handmade products by the Kanayama International Exchange Association at the "Hida Kanayama Marathon".
Furthermore, Mr. Aniya explained about the “Japan-Alaska Sister City-Town Pride FESTA'' currently being held by the Consular Office, and he mentioned that any works such as photo essays introducing exchange activities are welcomed. He then also explained that the Consular Office would like to have many works submitted to the event, and that it would be possible to hold online sessions for people and groups who are interested in participating.
Afterwards, representatives from each sister city shared information about their respective activities including those mentioned below.
・From Anchorage-Chitose City, Ayumu Sato, the first high school exchange student from Chitose to Dimond High School, paid a courtesy visit to Mayor Bronson on December 6th; a group of 18 Chitose City students will visit Anchorage in January 2024 for exchange, and as 2024 marks the 55th anniversary of the sister city relationship, a Chitose City delegation is scheduled to visit Anchorage in the end of August.
