2024/5/31

On May 29, 2024, Head Consul Hamada paid a courtesy visit to Anchorage Assembly Chair Christopher Constant.
Head Consul Hamada and Assembly Chair Constant held an engaging conversation. As Mayor Bronson and his staff ensure a smooth transition to Mayor-Elect Suzanne LaFrance and her team, Assembly Chair Constant talked about his priorities in working with LaFrance. He spoke briefly on finding a pathway to the homeless question, helping to recruit the workforce back to Anchorage that has left in recent years, passing bills to increase retention rates within the Anchorage Police Department, and creating more transparency through municipal government.
This year also marks an important year for Japan-Alaska relations, as Chitose and Anchorage will be celebrating their 55-year anniversary as sister cities. Head Consul Hamada spoke about the significance of what this relationship means for both communities, and thanked Assembly Chair Constant for his continuous work in improving ties between the two cities.
The Consular Office of Japan in Anchorage looks forward to future cooperation with the Anchorage Assembly.
