Online Meeting of the Japan-Alaska Sister Cities Forum
2025/9/16

On September 11, 2025, the Consular Office of Japan in Anchorage hosted the Online Sister Cities Forum. Representatives from sister cities in Japan and Alaska attended the meeting to share updates and exchange views on sister city exchanges.
The forum opened with presentations from the cities of Palmer and Homer, highlighting examples of intergenerational mutual visits and exchange activities, as well as moments when online and letter exchanges led to in-person interactions. This was followed by reports from participating cities on a wide range of activities, including delegation visits, student exchanges and homestay experiences, online sessions, and public relations efforts to promote their sister city partnerships.
Head Consul Kiyohiko Hamada noted that it is most pleasing to see the diversity of ways in which Japan-Alaska sister cities have been developing their relationships, despite constraints such as differences in municipality size and the impact of international circumstances. He also expressed his hope that participants would draw inspiration from the best practices and challenges shared during the forum to discover new possibilities for exchange.
The Consular Office of Japan in Anchorage looks forward to the further development of sister city relations between Japan and Alaska and remains committed to providing continued support.
